Picture Pages…

I am goingto breifly touch on my “photo” resolution (hah!)… While on our honeymoon, I took over 1,000 pictures. That’s right. One. THOUSAND. pictures. I will be the first to admit that of those, there will probably be close to two-hundred of them that can be “tossed” – as fuzzy, or bad lighting, or ones that look okay on the camera, but not so good when viewed on a computer screen.

Going back to my gaming days – long before the manufactured “Collectible Miniatures” games, when we used real miniatures (some of which may have had lead in them) that we had to hand-paint, ourselves* – we used the Battle Systems & Skirmishes rulebooks. And I liked taking pictures of landscapes, especially of areas that I thought would translate well to dioramas and game settings.

That’s something that has stayed with me… I’m a sucker for a good mountain shot, or a sweeping lanscape with a variety of foliage and natural dynamics. On the cruise, going around Cape Horn, I took a variety of shots of the actual Cape, where the only difference was where a spot of sunlight was falling on the side of the mountain. I am still going through the pictures, putting together a movie/slideshow (WELL over an hour… more like two… with only a handful of pictures removed), but I will (and have already been asked by coworkers) to load them to my Flickr stream… And when I do, you will notice some of them inthe widget on the left (the one cycling the pictures)… I may even put a post (series) together of some really cool pictures…

*The painting thing was what our group called the “Silver Surfer” rule – if a miniature was going to be used in a game, it had to be in some stage (preferably finished) of being painted. This was to prevent anyone from dropping some money buying a ton of figures on their way to a gaming session.

Theme Music… From the Clouds

Days like this, when the lighting is just right against the clouds, it tends to bring music to my mind…

Namely, the Simpson’s theme song.

Here is the car, freshly “pimped” with the bonnet stripes… I decided to go with the burgundy stripes, instead of the black as I was originally thinking. My key goal was to try and tie in the burgundy that I had on the interior (the shifter bag), and full burgundy just popped better than having different thick stripes and pin/accent striping…

And there is a story behind the color planning for the car… Stay tuned, and I will post it…

Eventually.

But first, I have some motoring to do. That’s Mary Catherine behind the wheel, waiting for me to get in the car so we can roll off to Busch Gardens…

Time to motor… 🙂

Sunny Days

Sometimes it can be the simple things – a clear day, good company – and a chance to catch a good image every once in a while… I’ll post the story behind this in a bit, but here’s the image, for now.

Update (10-15-07)
Mary Catherine and I had gone to WalMart, so she could get her oil changed, and so we could get a few other things as well. It was wonderful Saturday afternoon, and (as you can see) the sky was clear, with bright billowy clouds scattered and dotting the sky.

While we were driving back to the house, we say part of a rainbow – only a fraction of one, in contrast to the white of the cloud. The rainbow seemed to grow and shrink, depending on the viewing angle we had of the cloud – but we never saw any more than that (no legs) – nothing other than what was visible against the cloud. We attempted catching it (digitally), and this was one of the better pictures (from what I could tell). Simple things…

Signs, signs… Everywhere there’s Signs…

I had previously talked about bumper stickers. This is when it gets fun, and impossible to really take the driver too seriously (which is how it should be, anyway, right?) I saw this van today on my way back from lunch. What this picture does NOT show is the row of stickers running up the sides of the vehicle.

Where there is room in the back seat…

So… The idea is that a Mini is not supposed to have a lot of room, which Is true – the trunk space is rather limited. When there’s just one person though, there is actually plenty of room for a few errands around town. My plan was to go to PetSmart to get a 40# bag of dog food, but I got caught by a train and ended up detouring to another store. This is just one side of the back seat (the other is completely empty).

Hello, world… Let’s motor!

Here’s the Mini… There will be bonnet stripes added, but it drives very well… I’m still needing some practice in starting on slight inclines, but I’m getting the hang of it pretty well…

New Service…

I have now officially switched services… I know, it’s been a while since I’ve posted an update, but there has been a lot of things going on…

I am officially in a relationship (yes, with the same woman I have mentioned a couple of times before), and we have been doing a lot of side trips (a trip with my sister to Smithfield a couple of weeks ago, a trip to PA with one of MC’s friends over the holiday weekend, and a trip up to Virgina Beach this past weekend)… which transitions to…

I have gotten the Mini (finally). Mary Catherine and I drove up on Friday night, and after a brief visit with her brother on Saturday morning, we went to the dealer to pick up the car. Unfortunately, they did not have the bonnet stripes on the car, so we will have to go back up for them to be added later…

And then there is this (which is, actually the reason behind the post name)… I have changed my cellular service. After about eight years with US Cellular, I have changed to Verizon. One of the features that helped push the decision was blogging – namely Verizon supports Mobile Blogging, while US Cellular did not. Add in the fact that the calling plans that were available have been constantly shrinking (at one time, I could have coverage over the entire east coast – no roaming – and not on a national plan; now I am roaming anytime I pass the I-95 corridor, or go too far north and get closer to Virginia). Add in a “State Employee’s Discount”, and the odds just started stacking in favor of moving.

The picture is actually one of the stock images from the phone… but now I can play with photo updates on the fly – which includes some updates during trips… which will be useful when I am not able to get to a computer.
