La Villa Strangiato was the first instrumental that Rush recorded, and the first time that I heard it it blew me away, and the walking baseline (while familiar, if you think about it) was one of those, “Ooh, I’d like to learn that” things that grabbed me.
One of the other things that I like about Rush is that, especially on the last few tours, they play a little more… wait, let me clarify… they will tweak some of the arrangements, or play them in a different musical style (look up the Time Machine: Live album or video and go to Working Man – a reggae rhythm for most of the first verse before rolling back to the full rock version). They do the same here, opening with a few bars of the melody as a polka feel before sliding back into the rock arrangement. This is also from the Time Machine concert. Enjoy!
