"Headlong"

No particular point to the title… just Queen lyrics rolling through my head as I was getting ready to type it…

As I have been training people for the last few days, I haven’t really been able to write (while here at work)… namely holding myself back from progress on my current project. I have, for all intents and purposes, shelved my NaNo project for the time being, at least until I finish a few other projects (I want to complete my current project, and write a few short stories that I can tweak and start making rounds with…)

Which rolls back to my initial issues… first and foremost, to put it bluntly – getting off of my ass and writing! More to the point, putting fingers to keys or pen to paper and putting things down… I can’t get published without text, and GOOD text at that. Good text comes with practice – which I (unfortunatly) have a bad history/record with…

Grrrrr…. *thunk* as head hits desk

New Week, New List…

Out of about fifteen things I had on my “To Do” list from the weekend, I managed to complete all but three…

I have the morning free from trainees, but the afternoon will be fun, I’m sure. I think I will end up with the more experienced trainee… But I’m not sure what she will be doing…

And the calls have been steady today…

Friday…

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it is Friday…

It is now late afternoon, and five o’clock is just around the corner. Pretty soon, it will be time to kick up the heels and bolt out the door(s)…

The training continues – our last person has finally started, bringing us at last to “fully staffed”… the last time we had the full staff was my first week here (back in August!) But there are two people training (the first of the two has been around now for a few weeks and is probably close to a third of a way through the process…

And it is cold… windy and low temps… but managable while the sun has been up.
No mileage yet (today), as far as words go, but the day is not over. As I may have mentioned, I knocked out a couple of hundred words yesterday (actually finishing a section, setting up for the next transition point).

I have also gotten back into Need for Speed: Underground, where I have been trying to “advance my career” within the game… after not playing for a while, I have gotten a little rusty (my right pointer finger is a little sore – used in the game for the accelerator!) but have done pretty well the last couple of nights in getting back into the flow of the game.

And my joy will likely be short lived, for even though the joy of Friday will be wonderful, I have several projects that I will need to work on over the weekend (in addition to writing).

Quiet progress

I managed to peck out a few hundred words today, bringing the current count over the 4,000 word mark. Progress… at least it is progress…

It has been relatively quiet, but cold today… things were not so bad this morning, but now that the sun is dropping, so are the temperatures (thanks also to a cold front sliding through the area, too.)

But hey, tomorrow’s Friday, and then it will be the weekend! (And oh, to stay at home to work on projects, or just to bum, will be a wonderful thing, right? Like that will ever happen…)

The Middle…

Here we are in the middle of the week, and what a blessed day it is, right?

It is that precious balancing point where, until 12:30, the week has been slowly building its pressures and frustrations, only to tip at 12:31 to begin the rapid descent into the joys of the weekend! (Ah, the beauty of having a “normal” schedule, as opposed to my days in food service 🙂

Well, I did NOT get more written yesterday, but it is early enough that I am going to try for some more mileage…

Returns…

I have returned to my writing project (the one that I became stalled on a week ago). I’ve added about 549 words during the day today… we’ll see if I can get anything added tonight.

But it is a return… which is more than I had written last week, so there is much rejoicing to be made there… (oh, small victories when we can force ourselves to work on projects of our own creation, right?)

Here’s my catch… I had hoped (by my original plans) to finish the project by today… and I have barely really even started… I feel like I have a LOT more to develop in the story…
However, I am keeping track of my numbers now… days I am writing, and how much I put down, so I can track my overall productivity for planning future projects (and also so I can identify habits and try to “encourage the muse”).

But now it is time to run…

Doh!

Well… I thought I had a Monday post, but apparently my personal HD seems to be struggling a bit… *sigh*

Yesterday was the usual… a long Monday, and we didn’t get home until almost 9pm. I was training someone at work yesterday, so I didn’t have much access during the usual moments of “down time” to do any of my normal extra activities.

But it’s a new day… and I have things to work on… (talk about behind in “personal project” deadlines…)

Missing…

Wait… where did my post from Friday go…

Oh, wait… that’s right, I missed it. There have been several events that have been happening this weekend…

I did some cleaning around the house, helped some friends move over the weekend (and if you were in the Eastern NC are today… YES, we were out in that crappy weather, moving.

I also heard from a friend of mine, for the first time since last summer who had been going through some job changes and relocation. My “adopted” little brother (basically, we adopted each other as the opposing spectrums of our group growing up… I was the oldest and he was the youngest, but we always got along well), had been changing MOS (yes, he is in the military) over the summer and last I heard he was preparing for the training schools for the new career field. Shortly before graduating from the second of the two schools he was attending, he ended up with an injury. He was fortunate that he was given an opportunity to return to his previous field, instead of being left “at needs” of the service (translation: “Hey, this unit needs someone from your primary jobe code. Congratulations!”) It was good to hear from him and get the update on his events and his family.

But now, it is bed time, and I really don’t look forward to the morning (thanks to the foul weather that has been here today…)

Thursday –

The weather has been cold and rainy – small patches of ice this morning, with temperatures rising above freezing making it feel like the winter that has been missing for a while.

The melancholy of the weather has spread into people’s attitudes, as well… people have been calling with some sour moods (as my wife can attest to). It has also rolled over to my reading today, during my down-time.

Normally, I’ve been reading other blogs, forums, or media reports, but today I ended up spending a lot of time reading about a few murder investigations – cheery reading on a cold, rainy day, right?

It has propelled a “blah” feeling that has been hanging around me all week… I haven’t read or written anything, and I have just been generally cranky.

Bring on Friday. Bring on the weekend. Bring on a change of scenery to get my but back into gear.

Wednesday…

Time again for the “Wednesday Night Social Club”. The last couple of days have just been rather “blah” after an otherwise great weekend. I wish I had more to say right now, but I am just kinda “phthbt” (you know, the raspberry sound).

I’ve been doing some prep work to start planning for grad school… and spinning some of my other wheels.
