New Year…

Not sure if I will get an opportunity to post before leaving later this afternoon, so “Hapy New Year” to those that find this. My wife and I are working on our resolutions, and I plan on posting mine early next week.

Until then, and just in case, again, “Happy New Year!”

I feel like a heel… no post from yesterday. Things were not quite as busy as they were on Wednesday (wa-hoo!), but were still quite steady. My wife has gotten interested in online forums for her Natural Horsmanship method, lately, which in turn prompted me to return to some of my “roots”…

I had previously been on BikeForums.net, I think, as a viewer. Yesterday, since I have had several projects “in the works” for some time now, I figured I would get started seeking some advice, so I spent a good deal of time checking through the sight and reviewing some areas of interest.

Post-Holiday Blues…

So much joy (and sugar) during the past few days (of time off), and now I am back at work… it has been a busy day today, and I have barely had an opportunity before now to write a post…

Soooo…. I’m back at work, coming off of a sugar kick from the last few days, and am looking forward to 5pm…

And I am already thinking ahead to “New Year’s” and my resolutions for the coming year… (more to follow on those, later).

Until then, I hope your holidays (whichever ones you celebrate) go/are going/went well.

Ahhh… Christmas Friday!

Merry Christmas!

I know, it’s a little early (as Christmas Day isn’t until Monday)… but with traveling and limited access (not to mention holiday gatherings and shopping and wrapping still to complete), I can’t guarantee I’ll have a chance to make a similar post any closer to Monday than this…

And, what makes it even better is that today is Friday… Come 5pm, it will be heel-kicking time as we (here in the office, anyway) embark on a wonderfully anticipated four-day break!

So… this may be my last post until next Wednesday (upon by return to work)… maybe not… but if it is, again…

Merry Christmas!

Blah…

Today’s subtitle: “Is it 5pm on Friday yet?”

Today has just been one of those days… call volume has been about normal… steady all day… One person is out on vacation (starting today) and will not be back until after the 1st. We also ended up down another person (last minute personal day… don’t know specifics – and short of being short the person, it doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme)…

So the phone traffic has kept things busy, with very little time to do anything other than spin to the next call for most of the day…

In short… it has been a “blah” day, and I am glad that (as I write this) the clock is nearing 5pm… I need some down time to get mentally rewired to get past how “blah” I’m feeling right now.

Secret Santa… and other things…

Today was our “Secret Santa” exchange at work… I had several books on my list (the Bourne titles, a couple of King titles – his anthologies). I also had CD-Rs and DVD-Rs on my list, as well as a few other items. I had been thinking, wondering, what books would be gotten, or figuring that I would likely end up with a gift card to Barnes & Nobles. However, I was secretly hoping it would NOT be the books, as I still have several at the house that have been sitting untouched for years, never having been read (yet).

Today was a happy day, for no books were received. Instead, I was graced with the presence (presents, tehehe) of a 50 ct. spindle of CD-Rs AND DVD-Rs. That was a very good thing.

On “other” things, I’m trying to expand my community, in a sense… I’m reaching (back) out to folks that I have regularly worked with or spoken with or just plain had fun with, but have not been able to keep in touch with for some time. It’s a work in progress, and I may not be able to reach everyone, but here’s to making an effort, right?

Dogs, and Horses, and Cats (oh, my!)

A short one, this morning… maybe more later…

The cats are fine, short of them (the oldest, most likely) flipping the food storage tub to the floor by the time we returned home last night (guess they got hungry, eh?) The horse is also doing well, despite some of his mood swings when he is trying to test my wife (the horse is 22, and my wife is learning the Parelli “method” with him… some days he wants to play, some days he doesn’t…)

The dogs, however… We aquired a beagle in August through some touchy family issues (we are “dog sitting”, until the dogs owner gets into a housing situation where pets are allowed), and our other two “County Specials” (read: mutts) have been doing well… until recently.

The beagle has some issues (it seems that he has always itched since he’s gotten to us… it’s possible that he is allergic to something in our area – since he came to us from Texas). He itches and he barks (bays would be a more accurate term – he had been an indoor dog, and now he stays outside most of the day, whne weather is decent). So he itches and bays, but otherwise is pretty mellow.

The oldest, that we shall call here, Piper (which, by the way, is her actual name… go figure the originality here, huh?) has been around for about six years. She had some personality issues (we think she was abused before she came to us) – namely she was leary of anyone that she did not know.

The youngest, we’ll call her Gretta (same deal – we named her, we’ll use it), is just outside the true puppy stage at about 18 months – and we’ve had her since she was about 6-8 weeks old. Recently, however, she has been demonstrating some concerning traits, which last night were actually witnessed by yours truly (previously, we heard about the issues after the fact). There had been an issue where Gretta had gone after Piper… we discovered spots of blood and places where piper had lost small tufts of fur, and Piper looked like she had rolled in something… Since then, we’ve been keeping Gretta seperated during the day…

Last night, I let Gretta out of the smaller kennel (a 10×10 area) and was getting ready to let everyone inside for dinner, and to get ready for bed. Gretta went over to Piper and after a few moments, they began scrapping (Gretta had put herself over Piper’s head/upper back area, and when Piper let Gretta know that Gretta needed to get down is when everything started). In the effort to seperate them, I was hitting Gretta with a plastic feed bowl (livestock quality from Tractor Supply, not a flimsy bowl) and pulling on her collar. It took me about two minutes of popping Gretta, kicking at her back end and pulling on her collar to get them seperated, at which point Piper went to the other side of the yard. During the scuffle, they ended up in the smaller kennel – and I left Gretta in there when they were finally apart.

* Note: I am not one to condone hitting animals with “foreign objects” (spanking with your hand is one thing, but taking full swings or even kicking I find to be in extremely bad judgement), but I could think of no other way to seperate them. Friends of ours had to shoot both of their dogs when the dogs got so far into a fight that attempts to seperate them wouldn”t work – and the dogs ended up nipping each other in the throat, drawing blood…

So now we are at a crossroads, figuring out the best way to handle the animals… For now, we are just keeping them seperated as we have, both inside the house as well as out… We are considering training classes, but beyond that we aren’t quite sure on the best way to proceed.

A not-so-quite-short short one… just something I needed to get out of me…
